Choosing the Right Bridal Gown for Your Wedding Theme

Posted on

ImageJust as it is essential to select the most appropriate style for your physical features, choosing the right bridal gown for your wedding theme should take priority over flowers and other reception concerns.

When thinking about themed events one often imagines themes such as pirates, jailhouse, island or horror. Believe it or not, the wedding can also have an overall theme, but it certainly will not be one of the mentioned ones.

Sunflowers or Spring Time

With a flower-based theme, you will want to add flowers to the ratio when choosing the right bridal gown for your wedding theme. Consider the main flower and then either create flower embellishments on the dress accordingly. Flowers resemble spring and summer and as such the garment will be something that can be worn at a summer or spring wedding.

Gold or Silver Theme

Choosing the right colour for the wedding theme is important since the bridal gown will need to compliment the theme. A gold or silver theme is very appropriate and the bridal gown will in the case of gold be beige or an ivory colour rather than sparkling white. For a silver theme, you can go with a light blue, bright white or even a silver garment. Silver is not appropriate for a champagne breakfast theme. As such the time of day for the event will also be important.

The above are, but two examples of appropriate themes. The consultants at Eurobride will be able to assist with more theme ideas.

Choosing the Right Bridal Gown

When you do dress shopping, keep the overall colour of the theme in mind in addition to the ambiance you wish to create. A vintage styled wedding will definitely not go well with a modern bridal garment that is short with an open back. Likewise a modern theme will not support a ballroom bridal gown. The colour once again, will also be important. If the wedding is white and pink, it will hardly make sense to add a red bow to the wedding dress.

Skin and Hair Colour

When selecting the wedding theme always keep your bridal gown in mind. Some colours simply don’t go well with pale skin tones and others look awful on darker skins. Find out which colours will be perfect for your skin colour and then work on the wedding theme. Also remember that the dress styles for particular themes may not fit your physical features. First find out which styles and colours are appropriate and then work on the wedding theme.

If you have winter skin tone which implicates a pink or blue undertone you will do well with colours such as white, navy, and red. Stay clear from the golden colours and thus themes. If you have a summer tone with pink and blue undertone and blonde or brown hair with light blue or green eyes you will do well a wedding theme that is pastel in colour.

The autumn tone with brown eyes and golden skin tone will look good in beige colours when choosing the right bridal gown for the wedding theme. As such go with a wedding theme that is appropriate and stay clear from anything blue. Spring tones go well with yellow and peach.

Choosing the right bridal gown for your wedding theme thus starts with the selection of colour according to your skin and hair tone, followed by the most appropriate styles for your physical features and then traditions. Finally, once you have the above information; work on an appropriate theme that can incorporate the relevant colours and styles.

Designer Wedding Dresses Do’s and Don’ts

Designer wedding dresses are more affordable than most brides think. One of the biggest mistakes you can make is to simply purchase a bridal gown off the rack without considerations regarding your physical built, the ceremony formality, and alterations.

Designer wedding dresses can be affordable once you pick the right supplier. Preferably stick with a design house or boutique that supplies directly from design houses. This will ensure quality and a better fit.

To make it a little easier, here are a few do’s and don’ts to bear in mind:

Do: Select a dress that will fit your particular physical built. It will ensure that not only your dress will be admired on the special day, but also the way it looks on you. You are not a mannequin showing off a garment, but a person and the garment should highlight your best attributes.

Don’t: Select a dress based on tradition irrespective of your physical attributes. As beautiful as the style can be, it can look terrible on you.

Do: Select a colour that will go well with your skin. If you have a light pink undertone, go with a yellow white rather than a pinkish white.

Don’t: Let tradition dictate a stark white if it will not go well with your skin. If you have a fair skin, stay away from stark whites and go with an ivory or white with an undertone.

Do: Budget for shoes, jewellery and accessories.

Don’t: Go cheap on jewellery. It will make your dress look cheap.

Do: Choose the designer wedding dress with the formality level of the ceremony in mind. You will want the dress to be in line with the overall theme and will want to ensure that it fits the occasion.

Don’t: Wear a casual dress to a formal wedding. You should thus not wear a shorter or open back and shoulder to a rather formal wedding. The same applies for a beach wedding. A long wedding dress will simply be impractical and will get dirty within the first half an hour.

Do: Select jewellery and accessories that will compliment the dress and your skin colour.

Don’t: Overdo accessories since you don’t want to look like a Christmas tree.

Do: Give your bridesmaid’s a bit of freedom to ensure that the garments they wear will look great on them and that they will be comfortable wearing such.

Don’t: Attempt to dress all the bridesmaids in the same style unless all your bridesmaids have hourglass figures. An apple physical built will hardly look good in a mermaid style bridesmaid’s dress.

Do: Dress better than your guests. You should be the centre of the attention.

Don’t: Dress more casual than guests. They will feel uncomfortable and you will look out of place.

Do: Ensure that the bridegroom’s outfit matches yours. It hardly makes sense to have the bridegroom dress in casual attire when you are in a formal designer bridal gown.

Don’t: Forget to have fun shopping for affordable, elegant and designer wedding dresses with the above considerations in mind.

Special wedding dress with color

ImageFrom the time you were a young girl, you probably imagined having a white wedding dress much like your mother’s while you looked at her wedding pictures for the hundred and fifteenth time. Years later, it is time to choose which white dress is ideal for your special day. You visit one bridal shop after another and browse a sea of white, eggshell, ivory and ecru wedding dresses. To your dismay they all start to look alike while to your shock you dare contemplate other colors! Do you betray your little girl dreams of the perfect white dress? Do you abandon years of fantasizing about the pure and wholesome image that your white dress represents on your long awaited wedding day? Would a unsual colored wedding dress portray you in unappealing light?

It actually is of surprise that the usage of the white wedding dress derives more from misconception rather than tradition. In 1840 Queen Victoria of England wore a white wedding dress when she married Prince Albert. This is where the popularity of the white wedding dress largely stems from. It was quite uncommon for brides to wear white prior to this time. Before the Victorian time, brides were usually married in differing colors such as blue which was the actual color symbolizing to purity.

Now, there are many reasons that brides may seek alternative colors for her wedding dress. With greater choices in dress designs, the melding of many cultures and progressive attitudes toward marriage, brides are venturing out in unparalleled directions. Here are some things to consider when deciding on the perfect colored wedding dress.

White is not often chosen in the East as it is often symbolic of death. In China red is thought of as good luck and in India red embodies purity. In some Islamic nations, the color green represents the Muslim faith and is frequently used in the holy wedding ceremony. For bicultural brides, it is often a fusion of traditional and non-traditional colors that gives the perfect balance to their wedding day.

Wherever you marry can make an impression on the color you choose. A daytime destination wedding versus an indoor evening wedding can have an influence on the color you choose. Destination weddings tend to have shades of light colors and accents especially when outdoors. Indoor and nighttime weddings tend to use bolder colors.

Time of Year
A spring wedding may look best with colors in the pastel range whereas a winter wedding may make healthier use of darker colors.

Wedding Bouquet
The color of your bouquet should complement the color of your dress. Try to maintain a balance of color and contrast between the two.

Wedding Theme
It is much easier to choose colors when establishing a theme for your wedding. A theme does not essentially have to be rather extreme like a beach or Las Vegas wedding. Rather, it can hold a feeling or impression which may consist of pastels, forest-like, whimsical or mystical colors. This does not preclude more radical themes nor is there anything inappropriate with desiring one. Gothic weddings are gaining notoriety where blacks and reds are often highlighted.

The Bride Herself
An significant factor is you the bride. Complexion, height and weight are significant factors. A fair skin bride should steer away from colors in the yellow range. Darker complected brides should avoid darker colors. Tall brides should try to break up their height by using accessories like sashes with colored ribbon while full-figured ones should experiment with monochromatic looks.

Bridesmaid Dresses
Some brides like to stand out from their bridesmaids and others prefer them to match. In some cases the only people with color are the bridesmaids while the bride is in white. It is feasible to imagine that today’s bride could choose to do the opposite. Imagine yourself in a light pastel blue dress with your bridesmaids in white dresses with light blue sashes!

First Time Wedding vs Non
Many first time brides are committed in wearing some shade of white which is absolutely fine. If it is not your first wedding, then you probably feel that you have been there and done that. Why not try out something new?

Bridal Accessories
Bridal accessories have become quite in style lately. Both Chelsea Clinton and Khloe Kardashian stylishly wore sashes as focal points of their dresses. The sash can bring lavishness and vivacity to a modest or minimal dress. It also virtually gives unlimited choices in color and trim without the need to be sized. Silk flower bridal headpieces and headbands can also create a splash of color and are unlimited in color and trim.

Color Trends
The color trend we see bridal dresses moving toward is inside the pastel pallet. This is not be mistaken with bold color pastels but rather very subtle ones. Some colors to consider are burgundy ,light pink, sage green, light blue and blushes.

The choices are unlimited and the pursuit for the perfect look is challenging but do not fret about differentiating yourself! Just because your dress may be a uncommon color does not have any bearing on how decent or genuine you may be perceived. What ultimately matters is which color makes you happiest on the day you have dreamed of for so long. So get out there, venture to be different and try something new! You never know, your own future little girl may end up dreaming of wearing light blue after looking at your wedding album for the hundred and fifteenth time!
